I am Gabriella’s faithful summer beach towel. Yesterday I could tell that Gabriella was craving a swim in the ocean – not a long one, but long enough for the salt to stick to her skin and for her morning problems to wash away with the out going tide. She tucked me under her arm, grabbed the keys for the gate and sprinted down to the beach. I pleaded with her, reminding her that beaches are still closed as part of the governments regulations to combat the virus, Alas, she failed to take heed of my warning and before I knew it her toes had touched the sand. She was so fixed on the clear water that she failed to notice the nature rangers waiting round the corner.
